Export earned recognition for Red Tractor members, Pig Industry scholar .....and more
The export requirements (Reg (EU) 2016/429) between Great Britain and the European Union, which aim to prevent the spread of transmissible animal diseases, mandate that all exported meat must originate from animals under veterinary care.
Defra has determined that given Red Tractor certification ensures that a vet has visited the farm, the product therefore meets the necessary criteria for the export health certificate. Upon arrival at the abattoir, the Official Vet will utilise the Red Tractor Member Checker to verify that the farm holds RT assurance, granting automatic earned recognition.
Studying Veterinary Bioscience at Harper Adams University, Lily Chandler has been chosen as this year's recipient of The Pig Industry Scholarship student placement by Red Tractor.
Lily's arrival comes at a crucial time for UK food assurance, and she will continue the excellent work of the previous scholar, Annis Cousins, who will be returning to Harper Adams for her final year. Annis, who served as a technical coordinator during her 12-month placement at Red Tractor, spoke positively about her experience, mentioning her involvement in Sector Board and Standards Committee meetings, which allowed her to interact with industry leaders and stakeholders.
She also emphasised the valuable cross-sector insight and perspective on Assurance that her work on various projects provided. The scholarship program, coordinated by AHDB, The NPA and Harper Adams University, offers hands-on industry experience and highlights the diverse opportunities available in British agriculture to future leaders.

Red Tractor was delighted to assist the researcher from the BBC Radio 4 soap ‘The Archers’ with a biosecurity story, which highlighted crucial aspects regarding pig diseases and food waste. We hope that the message the episode delivered resonated strongly and made a lasting impact with listeners.
