In this section we look at essential visitors and access during housing order restrictions.

Together, it was agreed that action must be taken to support regular, robust auditing of the poultry schemes.

Essential visitors:

In March 2023, The Red Tractor Poultry Board, including representatives from the major integrators, retailers, and unions, including the National Farmers Union and British Poultry Council, agreed that their farms and businesses would include Red Tractor assessors as essential visitors in their policies.

This does not give assessors legal power of entry but provides assessors with agreement to access the farm during certain restrictions, i.e., housing orders.

Access during restrictions:

The Red Tractor Poultry Board also agreed that assessors can conduct physical audits during restrictions such as the National Housing Order, but not where a member's site falls into any of the protection or surveillance zones.
